Leonila Polea is 51 years old and has four children aged 9 to 30. The family lives in Leyte province. For the past four years and along with her 51 year old husband, Felipe, Leonila operates a farming business on a hectare of land near their residence. Their primary crop is high quality rice which they sell to vendors in their local market. Various local farmers assist them in their business. Leonila is requesting a loan of $1050 (40,000 Philippine pesos) from the microfinance organisation Zaragosa Agrarian Reform Cooperative to purchase more fertilizers and assist her with the maintenance of her farming equipment. She has promised to repay this over a six month period. She hopes to increase her production and to help more local farmers.
