Clemence Hedihon is a 39 year old woman. She is married and has 3 children, all are enrolled at school. Her main business is a food stall, she prepares a dish very popular in South Benin. This dish can be eaten throughout the day and includes rice, broad beans, other vegetables and condiments. She also sells bread or cassava flour or gari. To sell her food, Clemence has set up a shed at the front of her house. The food stall opens all day and her children help when they return from school. Clemence also sells all types of women's shoes. She buys her supplies at the international market of Cotonou. Clemence has been a customer of the microfinance institution for 3 years and she is now asking for a loan of $1100 that she intends to pay in 12 months. She wants to build and better place to sell her food where her customers can sit. She also wants to buy more shoes and food supplies for the restaurant. The profits on this loan could help her husband to pay school fees. She will put some money aside to purchase a plot of land where she can later build a house. Clemence wants to give her children a better future.
