Ramantou Oliyikou is a 55 year old woman. She has 5 children, all of them went or are at school. Ramantou is a very active red palm oil trader. She also sells red palm kernels, a by-product of red palm oil production. She has 3 employees and a stall at the Pobe market where she sells the oil wholesale. She buys the oil and kernels from the oil producers in her village. Ramantou has been a customer of the microfinance organisation ACFB for several years and she has recently applied for a $900 loan. She is intending to buy 20 containers of oil of 25 litres each and several bags of palm nut kernels to keep the business going and to meet demand. She will use the profits for her household daily expenses and also to save for a plot of land.
