Amelie Odjouoye is 46 years old, she has 2 children, they are enrolled at school. For 20 years, Amelie has been selling maize semi-wholesale in her neighbourhood. This aside, Amelie is also a producer of akassa, a very popular food product in the central and southern region of Benin. Akassa comes from maize starch made into a dough and cooked slowly. Once ready it is kept fresh in banana or teak tree leaves. Amelie buys maize in Parakou town. Her customers are local. Amelie has been a member of the microfinance institution ACFB for some time and she has always repaid her loans. At present, she is requesting a new loan to buy 12 or more bags of 100 Kg of maize each to sell semi wholesale and to produce akassa. Amelie will use the profits to improve her house, but mainly to save for a plot of land.
