Loan description:
Romdoul Phan is 37 years old and married with only two children. They are between 13 and 16 years old and both of them are at school. They live in Svay Chrom village, Prek Norin commune, Ek Phnom district, Battambang province. Romdoul and her husband have farmed rice for past ten years - they farm seven hectares of rice paddy. The yield from their rice gives them approximately three tons per hectare and they sell their crops to local traders. On some part of this rice paddy they are able to farm twice a year and the same four hectares of this land is used to grow watermelon, cucumber and green beans, after a period three months the crops can be harvested to sell to local buyer. They use their own hand tractor to operate their farm which enables them to plough on time and reduce the cost. They can also plough for other villagers which means they can earn money from this hand tractor. As their working capital is limited, they have taken a loan in order to purchase the seed of the watermelon, green bean, diesel for tractor, insecticide, weed killer and pay for labor cost.
