Augusto Tomás Benítez Mass is a farmer and requested a loan in order to buy inputs. He is 27 and has two young children with his partner. He lives with his family near the town of Catamayo and he has been working in agriculture since he was quite young. Unfortunately, he did not complete primary school. He grows maize mainly as well as raising cattle. It is hard work and at times risky because of climate and price variability. Don Tomas has managed to build a small house on his parents' land and is aiming to save enough to eventually buy his own land. He said he would like his children to study and thus choose a profesional career in which they can serve others. Specifically, he requested a loan in order to buy fifty bags of fertiliser, each one has a price of $10, pay for transport of the same, buy chemicals to protect his crops - pests are more common during the winter months, as well as certain farming equipment and tools. He intends to repay the loan over 12 months.
