Loan description:

Felisa Carcueva is a 60 year old married woman who lives in the neighbourhood of Poblacion 1 which is in the town of Malabuyoc in Cebu province. She support the needs of her two grandchildren aged three and two years old. Felisa and her 61 year old husband named Edgar work together in order to provide their daily necessities. Her husband works as a wholesaler of dried fish products in the town while she operates a small stall that sells dried fish in retail. Her stall is located 40 kilometres away from the town plaza and caters services to people who seek for affordable and clean fish products. Her dried fish are stored in wooden boxes and segregated according to size and class. During her daily business activities, she usually removes the products from the boxes and arranges them for the customers to conveniently choose their desired variety of dried fish. She sells her offerings in a per kilo basis using a small weighing scale to easily determine the prices. She stays in the stall throughout the day until late afternoon and re-stores the dried fish in preparation for the next day. She even opens the business every weekends and holidays. Since she gets her products at cheaper costs, she makes sure to pass it on to the customers in a more affordable prices compared with other competitors. This has been her venture for almost 20 years. Felisa is an active member of the microfinance organisation, Lamac Multi-Purpose Cooperative for 5 years wherein she has completed five loan cycles. She has again sought for a new loan in order to purchase more dried fish in larger volumes. This will also help her husband in getting their products in a much affordable prices. She wants to save a large portion of her income in her savings account for the future education of her grandchildren. She also dreams to own a large market shop in the town someday. Her loan is worth $1221 and she intends to settle it over a short span of three months.
