Antoinette Houndekon Tossou is 47 and has five children - four of whom are in school. Unfortunately, she herself had to drop out of school when she was quite young. She was taught how to weave cloth. However, there were not many opportunities in this particular profession so she instead started selling kitchen utensils. Among the items she sells are plastic bowls, cool boxes, dishes, knifes, forks, and pots. Antoinette has a stall in the Ikpinlè market as well as selling items from her home. She considers it a good business. She has another business as well - selling groundnut oil. She employs two shop assistants for selling the kitchen utensils. Antoinette buys most of her kitchen stock from the large Dantokpa market in Cotonou as well as neighbouring Togo, while the groundnut oil she sources from the Ouando market in Porto-Novo. She has been a client of the ACFB microfinance client for the past five years. She requested a loan of 500,000 West African francs in order to buy both more utensils to sell as well as groundnut oil. She intends to repay the loan over 12 months.
