Ly Song is 44 years old and married with five children. The eldest is 18 and the youngest is 5 years old. They live in Changhosvay village, Chengmeanchey commune, Banon district, Battambang province. Ly and her husband, Pek Nim (indicated in the photograph) have spend their lives as farmers for past over 20 years and they farm four hectares of rice paddy, the yield provides them with approximately three tons per hectare. They keep two tons of this rice for their own consumption and the rest is sold.. Aside from farming this rice, they also farmaround two hectares of maize and the yield from their maize gives them around four tons per hectare. The advantage of their farming since they have been using their own tractor to operate their farming for past four years is they have cut down the cost of their business. As their working capital is low, they applied a loan in order to buy good quality seed of maize, commercial fertilizer, insecticide, weed killer, diesel for tractor and pay for labour cost. They aim to repay this loan over ten months.
