Loan description:
Fanny Galvan is 45 and has five children. She also looks after a grandson who is five years old. Her husband works for the local council. They have their own house. As her children grew and became less dependent upon her she decided to start a business, partly to contribute to household income but also to have her own independent source of income. She started off selling cosmetics - she took orders by distributing a catalogue and then returned to collect orders. Her husband became seriously ill about three years ago and was bedridden for two months. Eventually the doctors detected a problem with his spine and he became paralytic. The council has fortunately not dismissed him because of his illness but have worked to accommodate him. Fanny stopped selling cosmetics because her husband needed care and attention. Her husband's health has improved. However, Fanny wanted to work from home and therefore about two years ago she opened a shop selling basic foods and grains. The shop is actually quite successful because of its good location with lots of passing foot traffic. Fanny has been a client of the microfinance organisation Fundacion FACES for some time and has received and repaid several loans. Her latest request is in order to finance the purchase of more new stock for the shop - it works out cheaper if she can buy in bulk because she receives a discount.
