Loan description:
Savoeurn Svay is 42 years old and married with five children. Her oldest child is 22 years old and her youngest is 10. Only her two younger children are still at school, her older children now have their own jobs. Savoeurn and her family live in Samrorng village, which is in Banon district, Battambang province. Savoeurn and her husband are farmers and farm cassava on around seven hectares of land. To earn extra income for their household, they also run a business selling smoked fish, onions, salt, white sugar, bananas, soy beans and so on. They travel from one village to another selling these goods on a cart which they attach to their hand tractor. They go back to renew their stocks every two days. The best area for them to sell their products is the area on the Cambodian-Thai border. This business provides them with a better income for their family and then they can earn around $75 per trip. They generally buy new stock directly from Battambang town which is located 20 kilometres away from their home. As their source of funds is currently limited and to meet the demand of villagers they have decided to apply for a loan to buy new stocks for their business. They plan to repay this loan over 12 months (the photographs show Savoeurn's husband with the hand tractor they use to sell their goods).
