Loan description:
Debora Oke Salako is 35 and married with four children. Her husband works as a carpenter and their children are aged between two months and 10 - the elder three all attend school. For the past ten years, Madame Debora has made a living from making and then selling red palm oil. This is a home based business. After buying the palm nuts from local villagers, and then separating them from the stalks, she cooks the palm nuts in large drums. They are then pressed and the oil extracted is collected in cans ready for sale. She sells the oil at the market in Pobè. Depending upon how busy she is, Debora hires up to five employees to help her on a temporary basis. She also makes and sells ground cassava flour (called 'gari') which is food staple in West Africa. Debora has been a borrower of the microfinance organisation ACFB for the past three years and requested a loan of 300,000 West African francs in order to help her buy palm nuts and cassava tubers in bulk. She intends to repay the loan over 12 months.
