Ecuador
Loan description:
Luz Hilda Robalino Lapo is 67 and married. Doña Luz left home when she was just 14 to work as a maid in a 'hacienda' or large farming estate. She did this job for around five years. She left when she got married. Her first marriage lasted for some six years. Her husband suffered problems with alcohol and eventually died because of alcohol related illnesses. She did not complete two pregnancies during this time. Luz then started working as a trader selling cheap jewellery and women's underwear and re-married when she was 35. Her husband sold pastries and a traditional Ecuadorian drink called 'morocho' or spiced hot milk with corn as an itinerant trader. Luz requested a loan to buy new items to sell - principally beads, traditional bags and jewellery.
