Loan description:
Rosa Salinas requested a loan in order to buy more stock for her shop. She is 60 and married with seven children. However, only the youngest son who is 17 still lives with her. She lives in her own home in the town of Catamayo. Her husband suffers from heart problems and no longer works - she is responsible therefore for providing for the household. On Thursdays and Sundays she sells vegetables at the farmers markets in town (something she has been doing for some 22 years), and attends to the shop the remainder of the time. Rosa and her husband used to work as agricultural day labourers in local farms when they were younger but gave this work up as they became older and found it tiring. It was then that they decided to establish the shop. The loan is for ten months.
