Lupe Maribel Chamba Ortega is 20 and has two young daughters. Lupita, as she is known, lives in the district of '24 de mayo' in the town of Catamayo. She is now separated from her husband, although he continues to provide financial assistance for their daughters. She has for the last five years made a living from selling fried pork or 'fritada'. At times it has been difficult because she has not always had somewhere to leave her children, but now she has places in the nursery. In addition to working Lupe is studying a beauty and cosmetics course at college in the evenings. Her main customers tend to be bus passengers who travel through the town. She requested a loan in order to buy supplies and materials she uses to prepare and sell fried pork. Her hope is that after completing the course she might one day open a beauty salon.
