Kong Bun is 59 years old and married to Mrs Ny. They have two children who still live with them. Kong and his family live in Doun En village, which is in Ek Phnom district, Battambang province. Kong has been a farmer all his adult life and now farms three hectares of rice paddy. The yield from his land gives him an average of only two tonnes per hectare and he stocks one tonne of this for his family's consumption. During the dry season, after they have harvested their wet season rice, Kong also grows green beans on the same land. Kong bought a hand tractor six years ago to help with operations on his farm. To ensure he can farm regularly every year, he has sought a loan in order to buy some seeds, weed killer, diesel for his hand tractor and to cover any other associated costs. He aims to repay this loan over ten months.
