Loan description:
Saul Medina is 59 and married with two children. He worked for 15 years as a labourer in the 'Monterey' Sugar factory in Catamayo. However, he eventually left this employment because it affected his health, particularly his knees because of the hard physical labour involved. He opened a shop with his wife and worked there for four years. However they closed it because it did not generate sufficient profits for them. His wife started a stall in the town's public market instead, while Don Saul bought a pick-up which he uses to ferry passengers and their goods to and from the market. This is a much more profitable activity. Both his children are studying full-time and he hopes they will continue on to university. He has sought a loan in order to undertake repairs to the pick-up so that he can get it back on the road as quickly as possible. He hopes that he might eventually be able to buy a new vehicle. He intends to repay the loan over ten months.
