Loan description:
Pablo Valdivieso is 63 and for more than 25 years worked in the 'Monterrey' Sugar factory just outside the town of Catamayo. When he retired at the age of 60 he started to grow and sell tomatoes. This has provided him with an extra source of income as his pension is insufficient to cover household costs and in particular the educational fees of his three younger children. He requested a loan in order to help pay for the costs of day labourers who he hires to help with ploughing and weeding. Pablo comments that there is a ready market for tomatoes in his district as traders visit and even buy the standing crop. His hope is that his children complete their education and obtain professional jobs. He intends to repay the loan over just six months.
