Nancy San Martin is 21 and married with two children aged five and two. She lives in the community of San Pedro de la Bendita a few miles from the town of Catamayo. She married just over a year ago. Nancy is an itinerant trader selling chips from a cart. Her home is opposite a local college and many of the students are customers. Her husband works in Ecuador's largest city Guayaquil which is around 8 hours by road and he returns home every 22 days. Nancy sought a loan in order to buy the ingredients she uses to cook in bulk. She has in fact received several loans previously and has proved to be a reliable borrower. This loan is for six months.
