María del Carmen Reyes is 33 years old and separated from the father of her three daughters. She has custody of the children. She used to work as a maid for various families in the city of Loja. She then moved on to selling cooked chicken wings. Recently though she changed once again to raising and selling chickens. She offers the chickens to other women who sell cooked chicken wings. Her ex-husband does provide maintenance for their children and she also receives the 'Bono Solidario' which is a small monthly stipend from the government for low-income families. Maria del Carmen saved and bought a small plot of land to build her own house one day - she is currently living with relatives. She has sought a loan in order to buy animals feed for the chickens.
