Loan description:
Chamreun Tol is 51 years old and married with six children. His children are aged between 21 and four years old. Only the fourth and fifth child attend the local school since the sixth is too young and the second and the third are monks. Chamreun and his family live in Prek Trob village, which is in Ek Phnom district, Battambang province. Chamreun and his wife are farmers and farm five hectares of rice paddy. The yield gives them around three tonnes per hectare and they keep one tonne of this for their own consumption. They generally sell their crops to a local trader in their village. Aside from farming rice during the rainy season they also do fishing in a nearby village which can earn them around $10 a day and they can save this income for their family expenses. To farm their rice successfully while their source of funds is limited, they have applied for a loan in order to buy seeds, help cover the cost of ploughing, to buy some commercial fertiliser and insecticide and to help cover any other associated costs. They expect to pay this loan back over nine months.
