Loan description:
Heang Chhoum is 56 years old and married with four children who are aged between 32 and 13 years old. Only Heang's youngest child is still at school, her older children now have their own jobs and live separately. Presently Heang's family live in Doung Mea village, which is in Ek Phnom district, Battambang province. Heang and her husband, Mouv Mom, are farmers and have been engaged in farming all their lives. At the moment they farm four hectares of rice paddy. The yield usually gives them between 2.5 to 3 tonnes per hectare and they stock two tonnes of this for their own consumption and sell the remainder to a local trader. To grow dry season rice like other villagers while their funds are limited, they have applied for a loan in order to buy good quality seeds, commercial fertiliser, diesel for their water pump and hand tractor and to cover labour costs. They intend to repay this loan over nine months.
