Willian Mejía is 34 years old and married with one son who studies at the local school. Don Willian lived in the Ecuadorian capital Quito for some years working in a restaurant. However, he decided to return to his home town of Catamayo to live and work about four years ago. He is a small scale farmer. His wife works as a kitchen assistant at the weekends. They would like their son to continue in education as long as possible so that he can obtain a professional job. Willian grows various crops including maize, but he is now focusing on tomatoes and peppers. He has sought a nine month loan in order to buy various farming inputs, including high quality seeds and fertiliser.
