Loan description:
Lar Nou is 43 years old and married with three children. The eldest is 21 while the youngest is 17 years old and is attending the local school. They currently live in Anlong Svay village, Takream commune in Banon district, Battambang province. Lar and her husband have been cow traders for the past 15 years. To earn more income for their household they decided to rent another section of land to grow rice on; they currently rent 13 hectares of rice paddy, which costs about $100 per hectare to rent. The yield gives them around two tones per hectare - they keep only one ton for their own basic needs and sell the rest to local middlemen. As their source of funds is currently in shortage, they have decided to ask for a loan in order to pay for their new renting costs, buy commercial fertilizer, diesel for their water pump and insecticide. They will return this loan over 12 months.
