Yoeurn Yat is 57 years old and married with eight children, who are aged between 28 and 18 years old. Most of Yoeurn's children have their own jobs and live separately but his youngest child is still at school. Yoeurn and his family live in Thmey village, which is in Sangke district, Battambang province. Yoeurn and his wife are farmers and currently farm eight hectares of rice paddy located near their home. The yield gives them approximately 2.5 tonnes per hectare and they stock two tonnes of this rice for their own consumption and sell the remainder to a local miller. Some parts of their farm can be used to grow on twice a year. To reduce the costs of this business, they have applied for a loan to buy a hand tractor to help with operations. Yoeurm expects to pay this loan back over 14 months.
