Nevenka

Loan description:

Nevenka Radoja is 44 years old and married with two adult children who are now both at university in Serbia. She is employed as a cleaner in a local school in the town of Bratunac in eastern Bosnia. Her husband works in a local metal factory in Potocari. She applied for her fifth loan from the microcredit foundation Women for Women International in order to continue with her chicken business, specifically to buy chickens and feed. She raises and sells chickens, about 25 at a time, for their meat. She buys the chickens every 2-3 months. Sometimes she keeps them on the second floor of her home in order to keep them warm during the winter months. Otherwise when they are older she lets them roam outside. She receives about 6 KM (around two pounds forty) per kilogram and each bird weighs around 2.5 kilograms. She has her clients for the chickens and her market is safe and permanent. Additionally she grows raspberries which she collects to make and sell jam at the local market. During season her husband also collects and sells blueberries. They used to rent accommodation in the town of Srebrenica but eventually saved enough to buy the partially constructed home where they now live. The second floor is still unfinished that is why they keep the chickens there.
