Amela Brkic is 28 years old and married. She has a son called Ismar who is nine. Amela lives with her family in a village called Dobraljevo near the town of Busovaca in central Bosnia. Ismar attends the local primary school. Amela raises livestock. At present she has one heifer which she is raising to sell. Additionally she grows and sells vegetables particularly potatoes, onions, beans. Since the economic situation has deteriorated so much in recent years the challenge for Amela is meeting household expenditure. Amela has applied for a loan from the microcredit foundation 'Women for Women International' because she wants to buy a second cow. She has already received and repaid one loan previously. This loan is for 15 months.
