Loan description:

Onion is an indispensable ingredient for the different dishes that comprise the African cuisine. However, it is an especially difficult commodity to source during the dry season. In order to tackle this problem and reduce the cost to households, Talatou launched a business buying, stocking and selling onion. She travels to the Saharan countries; notably Mali and Niger, where they have much more of this condiment. From there she purchases sacks of onions in large quantities. She then drys the product in order to conserve and stock it. In the dry season when onion is rare she then sells her stock to householders,to their great joy. She has run this business now for 12 years. She has a little shop where she lives in Nima in Atakpamé. At the moment, the rainy season is beginning so there is plenty of onion available. She is therefore seeking a loan for 1,000,000 West African francs from the microfinance organisation WAGES so that she can go and expand her stocks. She has known about WAGES for a year but this is her first experience of microcredit. Talatou is 32 years old, married and a mother to 3 children, aged from 3 to 7. Her ambition for the future is to take up a larger space in the market and improve the wellbeing of her children.
