Rieb

Rieb Phoeurt is 39 years old and married with four children, who are aged between 19 and 7 years old. Rieb's three younger children are at school and the eldest has his own job. Rieb and her family live in Prey Svay village, which is in Sangke district, Battambang province. Rieb and her husband, Chok Deng, are farmers and farm four hectares of rice paddy close to their home. The yield provides them on average with between three and three and a half tonnes per hectare. They normally stock two tonnes of this rice for their family’s basic needs and sell the remainder to a local miller. With the income they have generated from farming they bought a small hand tractor four years ago and this has helped greatly in bringing down the costs associated with farming. To expand their business Rieb and her husband have decided to apply for a loan to buy one and a half hectares of rice paddy to grow more rice. They expect to repay this loan over nine months.
