Ecuador
Loan description:
Johana Rojas is 32 years old and married with two children, a boy and a girl, aged 11 and 7 respectively. Her husband is a construction worker. She sells fruit and vegetables in the open market in Catamayo. It is a business she learned initially from helping her mother. She has had a business in her own right since she was 17. Over the years she has learned the best places to find and buy the products from the wholesalers. She has been a borrower of the microfinance organisation Fundacion FACES for some years now and has already received and repaid a number of loans to improve her business. However, she has now sought a ten month loan in order to improve her home, specifically replace her roof. The recent heavy rains in southern Ecuador have damaged it further and it is leaking in various places. She wants it replaced before the water damages other parts of the house. She intends to meet the repayments through profit she generates from her business.
