Bolivar Cumanche is 25 years old and married. He has two sons aged two and six. Bolivar is a carpenter and makes a variety of household furniture including beds, wardrobes and tables. Most of his production is in response to specific orders from clients. His wife raises chickens and this provides them with additional household income. They live with his wife's parents. They are a young family but their aim is to buy their own property - it might be easier to buy some land and build their own house. He has sought a small loan from the microfinance institution Fundacion FACES in order to buy more timber for his business. He intends to repay the loan over five months.
