Khon Bouch is 52 years old and married to Im Phoeur. They have five children: the four eldest are married and the youngest, who is 22, is living with them. Khon’s family lives in Sdey Krorm village, Prek Loung commune, in Ek Phnom district, Battambang province. They have been farmers for their entire lives. At the moment, they farm one hectare of rice paddy; the yield from which provides them with around three tons per hectare - 1,500 kilograms of this they use for their basic needs while the remainder they sell to local millers. They now also have an opportunity to grow watermelon on one hectare and green beans on another. To do this, they need a significant source of funds to buy high quality watermelon seeds, insecticide, weed killer and diesel for their tractor, and a water pump alongside the other associated costs involve in farming. They plan to pay this loan back over nine months.
