Suy Voeurn is 47 years old and married to Oum Sean. They have four children, aged between 25 and 18 years old; all of them have their own jobs and the eldest is married and lives separately. They live in Doun In village, Prek Loung commune, in Ek Phnom district, Battambang province. They have been farmers for the past 20 years and currently farm one and a half hectares upon which they grow rice. The yield from this provides them with approximately four tons per hectare; two tons of this is for their basic needs while the remainder is sold to local traders. In the dry season they grow rice and some green beans on up to two hectares of different land. Over three months both their dry season rice and green beans can be cultivated to sell to their villagers. They have sought a nine month loan in order to buy diesel for their tractor, insecticide, and high quality green bean seeds.
