Loan description:

Adjo, 30, is a married woman and a mother to three children, aged between five and nine years of age. All of her children attend school. Her husband is a builder by profession. For her part, Adjo is a retailer in grains – notably beans, corn and millet. She sources her stock from the neighbouring villages of Akparé and the surrounding area. Her point of sale is from a shed in the grain market in Akpesseme. She has one person to help her run the business. Adjo was one of WAGES initial clients; she has already benefitted from a loan for 300,000 West African francs, which she repaid duly in twelve instalments. Her new request is for a loan for 500,000 West African francs, which will be repaid in twelve months and will enable her to expand her grain stocks in time for the approach of the agricultural season. One of the difficulties faced by Adjo in her business is the mode of transport: after stocking up it is often difficult to find a a transporter to carry her produce. Thus in the medium term, it is Adjo’s ambition to acquire a small van to resolve this problem. She hopes that this would improve profits enough to allow her to move into her own house sometime soon.
