Zekija Alic is 49 years old and married. The family live in a house in a place called Cekrekcije near to the city of Visoko in central Bosnia. Zekija started a business farming and raising poultry several years ago. Zekija has a smallholding where she grows beans, potatoes and corn. She also has chickens from which she produces meat. She sells all of her produce to local people and neighbours. She takes a lot of orders, which has made her able to significantly expand her business. She is very pleased and happy because she can provide an income, which makes her feel very useful. In order to meet demand, she is now planning to grow garlic as well. She has applied for a loan from the microcredit foundation Woman for Woman International for the first time. She needs this loan because she wants to prepare her soil for plowing and she needs to purchase garlic seeds.
