Aldeniza

Aldeniza Destura is 44 years old and married with five children. Three of her elder children have already finished college and are now working while her youngest two are still at school. Her family lives in Hagnaya, a neighbourhood in the town of San Remegio, Cebu province. Her husband, Vicente, is 45 years old and works as a shipper. To help her husband provide the financial needs of all their children, Aldeniza has opened a small internet cafe in an area beside their house. She managed to purchase a few desktop computers two years ago and started to offer computer rental services. The customers pay her on an hourly basis which costs from 15 to 20 Philippine pesos per hour. Aldeniza previously worked in the field of printing and communications, which is why she chose this kind of business. Her children also assist in the everyday management of the computer shop. To add to the daily income of the family, Aldeniza was able to build a small sari-sari (convenience) store just in front of the cafe. She manages and runs both businesses and she is proud that she has maintained their sustainability. She sought a new loan from the microfinance organisation, First Consolidated Cooperative where she has been a member for more than a year, after she repaid a previous loan. She will use this loan to purchase a new computer unit for the internet cafe and to add a few more stocks to her sari-sari store. She will use the income she makes on the studies of her two younger children. Her dream is to one day be able to expand her business to another area of the town. Aldeniza intends to repay the loan over four months.
