Loan description:
Kong Sorm is 56 years old and married with nine children. Her children are aged between 25 and 17. Four of her children are married and live separately while two still attend high school. Kong and her family live in Prek Khpob village, which is in Ek Phnom district, Battambang province. Kong and her husband, Non Mai, have been farmers all their lives. Presently they farm one hectare of rice paddy and the yield gives them only two and a half tonnes. To expand their farming business they have sought a loan to buy two more hectares of rice paddy. With this bigger farming land, they will be able to grow more rice and sell more to a miller, earning extra income for the household. They now own one hand tractor and a threshing machine so this will help with the efficiency of their farming. In addition to farming, Kong’s family also provides a service packing Nem (a popular fish snack) for her villagers and has been doing this for almost three years. She expects to pay the loan back over 12 months.
