Rebeca

Loan description:

Rebeca Gabutero is 34 years old and married with one young child. Her family lives in Cebu province. Together with her 35 year old husband Johniel, Rebeca manages a small food shop from a stall near their house. She cooks different kinds of food in the morning and sell it to her neighbours and other passers by during the afternoon. She is assisted by three part-time employees who are entrusted with chopping, cooking, cleaning as well as selling the food. This has been her main source of income for the past two years. Rebeca has also purchased three small refrigerators with her profits. She is now using these to produce and sell ice. She fills small plastic bags with clean drinking water and freeze them overnight. She then sells them the following morning. She sought recently a small loan from the microfinance organisation, First Consolidated Cooperative, where she has been a member for the past year. The loan will be used to buy more food ingredients for her business. She also plans to acquire an additional refrigerator to increase the production of clean ice that is in high demand because of the tropical climate. The income she will earn will be saved for the future studies of her child. Rebeca dreams to have a larger food shop someday, a restaurant if possible. She intends to repay the loan over three months.
