Gerald Barot is 43 years old and married with two children. His 15 year old son is studying at secondary school and his 11 year old daughter is currently at elementary school. He is married to Vivian who is a businesswoman and they all live together in Brgy. 2, which is in the town of Tuburan, Cebu province. Gerald, as the head of the family, manages a grocery store close to where they live and sells affordable merchandise to people in the area. He offers items like bread, snacks, powdered drinks and beauty products. His store also sells school supplies including pads of paper, pens, pencils, glue and sharpeners. His store has been a great help for his community for the past 5 years. Gerald also offers electronic loading services for mobile phone credit and this provides him with an additional source of income. He has been a member of the microfinance organisation, Lamac Multi-Purpose Cooperative, for the past five years. He will use this loan to buy more stock in bulk so he can continue to provide affordable products to his valued customers. In particular he plans to purchase more sodas and biscuits in bulk.
