An Im is 29 years old and single. An lives with his mother who is 69 years old. They live in Prek Norin village, which is in Ek Phnom district in Battambang province. An is a farmer and farms two hectares of rice paddy that are about five kilometers away from their home. The yield is about one and a half tons per hectare. During the dry season An can grow watermelons and green beans on the same land as other villagers. Generally traders buy all their agricultural products directly from his farm. An has sought a loan in order to buy fertilizer, diesel, insecticide and weed killer. An expects to pay his loan back over five months (the photograph shows his mother).
