Lucia

Loan description:

Lucia Lanterna is 53 years old and married. She lives in the hamlet of Bagasawe, near the town of Tuburan in the province of Cebu. Her children are all working, have their own families and live separately. Ten years ago, Lucia worked as a security guard in a private establishment near the town. With her savings, she established a small grocery store when she retired. The store sells a variety of basic household items including canned foods, powdered milk, toothpastes, shampoos, soaps and condiments. The store looks very simple with her products covered by screened metals and the walls still not painted. Lucia has been a member of the microfinance organisation, First Consolidated, for the past eight years. She has already received and repaid several loans. She requested another loan in order to purchase new stocks of hygienic products and also to apply a coat of paint on the walls of the store. She believes that having an attractive grocery store will attract more customers. She intends to repay the loan over a period of four months.
