Kheng Chhoeurn is 31 years old and married with two sons aged 8 and 7 who both attend the local primary school. She lives in Poay Svay village which is in Banon district in Battambang province. She has been a member of Takream Credit Union for over seven years. Kheng and her husband, Thy Thouk, have earned their livelihoods from farming for the last ten years. The rice yield on their land is about three tonnes per hectare. They keep around 700 kilograms for their own consumption, and sell the remainder to traders. Kheng sought a loan in order to buy fertiliser and meet their ploughing costs. She intends to repay the loan over three months. Her aim is to ensure that her children can attend university.
