Kim Eng Me is 56 years old and married with four children. The eldest is 33 and the youngest is 22 years old and stills attends the local university in the city of Battambang. They live in Kro Pue Chueng village, Phnom Sampov commune, Banon district in Battambang province. Kim is a member of Takream Credit Union and with her husband, Chean En who is 59 (and shown in the photographs), has earned a livelihood from farming all her adult life. They own four hectares of rice paddy. The yield is about three tonnes and they sell the majority to merchants, keeping about one tonne for their own household consumption. They own their own hand tractor and so save the costs associated with renting. Kim Eng has sought a loan in order to buy fertiliser and diesel for the hand tractor. Kim Eng intends to repay the loan over five months. She and her husband want to establish a blacksmith's workshop from their home in the future.
