Loan description:

Eugénie, 35, is married and has 4 children who all go to school. For the past five years, she has been making a living selling a wide variety of shoes. In addition to this, she also sells cassava flour. As she doesn’t have a shop, Eugénie sells her goods on the side of one of the main roads in Calavi, an area of Cotonou, the capital of Benin. In order to help her run the business, Eugénie’s younger sister stays with the products on the roadside, whilst Eugénie goes from house to house delivering goods to other people. She buys her supplies from the Dantokpa Market in Cotonou, and sells them on to many customers including students, public officials and shopkeepers. Eugénie has always been a reliable client of the microfinance institution ACFB and is now seeking a loan of 300,000 West African francs. Eugénie proudly told us that the profit she makes from this loan will enable her to help her husband with the cost of sending their children to school and will allow her to save up to open a shop in the near future.
