Loan description:
Donabel Evardo is a 32 years old and married with three young children. Her eldest is six years old and attends the local primary school while her two youngest aged four and one are still at home. Her family reside in Abucayan, a neighbourhood in the town of Balamban, in the province of Cebu. Donabel and her husband manage a recycling business. The business is situated on land next to their home. They collect and recycle almost anything. This includes cardboard, cartons, sacks, plastics, tin cans, metals, tyres and even broken appliances. All these items and materials are then sold to local workshops and manufacturers. They employ four full time staff to help them collect, properly store and sell the recycled items. Their business also provides an opportunity for unemployed people in the area to earn an income though collecting any items that can be recycled, and bringing them to Donabel and her husband who will then buy them for cash. Another benefit of the business is that by collecting items that can be recycled, the business ensures that the local environment is kept much cleaner and thereby reduces the likelihood of flooding, and even diseases such as dengue fever and malaria. They have been running the business for the last six years and during this time have received ten loans from the microfinance organisation Lamac Multi-Purpose Co-operative. Donabel has requested a new loan in order to renovate an area of their warehouse where items are stored and kept. A part of the loan will also be used as working capital.
